Rent the Onewheel+ XR anywhere in the USA!

Onewheel_XR_SUPrents.JPG

The Onewheel+ is awesome! The Onewheel+ XR is awesome-er-er-er-er.... you get the idea.

At SUPrents we’re always on the lookout for products that get us excited! 3 years ago we revolutionized the standup paddle board rental game by allowing you to rent a standup paddle board and have it delivered directly to your door anywhere in the USA.  Last year we added Oru kayaks to the fold (get it?). 9 months ago we added the Onewheel+ and now we've added the Onewheel+ XR! That's right, we have the latest and greatest from Future Motion and that means you can now ride up to 18 miles on a single charge!

What is the Onewheel+ XR?  Simply put it’s an electric all terrain skateboard that’s self balancing and can handle dirt, grass, sand, gravel and pavement!  The board is capable of going 19 mph (though we recommend you keep it below 13 mph) and traveling up to 18 miles on a single charge.  The speed is controlled by sensors under your feet.  Apply more pressure to your front foot and board speeds up, release that pressure and the board slows down. When you run out of juice, simply plug it back into an outlet and you’ll be back on the road in no time.

It’s one thing to read about it, but it’s another thing to actually ride it.  It’s a feeling that is hard to describe, but when we do try to describe it to people, we say it feels like you’re riding a board that is equal part snowboard, surfboard, skateboard and hover board. To be clear, when we say hover board we don’t mean those cheap plastic toys that catch on fire.  No, we mean the actual Back II The Future Marty Mcfly hover board.

The rental process works exactly the same as our standup paddle boards and kayaks.

  1. You order your board through our website.

  2. We ship it to you with everything you need to hit the road or trail.

  3. When your rental is over you box it back up slap the prepaid shipping label on the box and send it back.

That’s it!  It’s really that simple!  Whether you want to rent a Onewheel in California, Washington, Florida, Maine, Nebraska, Texas or anywhere else in the USA, we will deliver it to you with free shipping both ways.

SUP Rents Delivers SUPs to Your Doorstep Wherever You Are

Have you ever rented a SUP only to be disappointed with your experience? Heavy, banged up boards; outdated equipment; bad weather, inconvenient rental locations and outrageous rental rates? Or maybe you are going on vacation and already own your gear. You know you’d like to paddle on your trip, but are deterred by the logistics of transporting multiple boards and paddles along with your family of four. Perhaps you are just looking for some flexibility in your travel plans. If this sounds familiar, then SUP Rents has a solution for you.

Founded in the summer of 2015 by Scott Allen and Eric Lindstrom, two lifelong friends, the business was born out of a mutual frustration with the SUP rental business. “We both thought there has got to be a better way to rent a paddleboard,” Allen told me after they each suffered bad rental experiences while on vacation with their families. Although neither of them lives on the water, paddling had become a part of their lives and they set out to make renting a board more convenient and affordable for paddlers across the country. Based out of two locations in the Pacific Northwest, SUP Rents offers customers four models of inflatable SUPs from which to choose, featuring products from Isle and newcomer Hydrus.

With a minimum rental period of two days, they will deliver a base model board to your door anywhere in the continental United States for the flat rate of $99. The same board is available for an entire week for only $189, approximately $27 a day. Everything comes in a box via UPS (inflatable SUP, fin, paddle and pump) along with a prepaid shipping label to return the board at the conclusion of your rental period. Sounds great, right?

As the SUP industry continues to grow and evolve, it is fantastic to learn about the new and innovative ways the paddling community is inventing to enable more and more people to experience stand up paddling. “SUPrents brings the convenience of Netflix to paddle board rentals,” said John Gavin, a customer of the innovative young business....... Inflatable vs Hard Paddle Boards: Speed Comparison

Our friends over at Isle Surf & SUP recently did a really interesting speed comparison between inflatable paddle boards and traditional hard boards. The results might surprise you. They tested multiple boards and found that on average the hard boards were only 5-6% faster than the comparable inflatable boards. Proving once again that unless you're wanting to surf or race, an inflatable is the way to go. Convenience, convenience, convenience! I'll take a 5% speed decrease any day of the week if I don't have to deal with roof racks, worry about my board being damaged and have room to load three friends in my car with four iSUP's. For me, that's what The SUP Life is all about!

SUPrents.com lands in Kauai

Winters in the Northwest can leave my family and I feeling a little depleted in the Vitamin D department.  To combat that deficiency we took a trip to the beautiful Hawaiian island of Kauai.  My wife and I have been making the trip to Hawaii for one reason or another for the last 10 years.  However, this was the first time my son would get to experience island life.

When we visit the islands we make sure to soak up plenty of sun on the beach, but we also love to explore all the island has to offer.  Some of that exploring can only be done by boat (Secret Falls being one example). Lucky for us the inflatable paddle boards from SUPrents.com are easily toted around in the trunk of our car allowing us to pull our car over and be ready for a stand up paddle board session whenever inspiration strikes.  Heck, to prove how portable these boards are I took the Tower Adventurer iSUP on a 5 hour hike to Hanakapiai Falls.

All in all it was an excellent trip, that I'm sure we will be making again!!

Sunny San Diego with a SUPrents.com iSUP

My family loves San Diego! It's where my wife and I went to university and eventually got married, so needless to say we have tons of great memories tied up in this beautiful city.  We love visiting now because we still have friends and family in the area. We try to visit at least once or twice a year and we recently went down for a quick getaway to escape the cold and snow in Bend, Oregon. I packed the San Diego essentials - boardies, sunnies, flip flops and an inflatable standup paddle board from the SUPrents.com board stash!

I threw the board in the trunk of the rental car and was ready to hit the water whenever we had a few free minutes. Downtime is hard to come by when we're in SD because we're trying to see everyone, go everywhere and pump as many california burritos and acai bowls as possible into our stomachs, but that's where the beauty of having an iSUP comes in.... you throw the board in the trunk and you're ready to hit the water anytime/anywhere. All you need is 30 minutes to spare and it's on! It doesn't get much more convenient than that!

Here's a few pictures from our 3 days in sunny SD on the SUPrents.com iSUP...

Learn to Stand Up Paddle

SUP Body Positioning

When starting out the path of learning to stand up paddle board, you first want to find the center of the board and position your feet in a parallel stance about shoulder width apart around the center point of the board. You’ll want your knees to be bended slightly. You can practice rocking the board side to side by moving you weight. This is the counter-balancing motion that you need to learn to balance. It takes about 30 minutes to find your balance and to get the muscle memory. It feels really tipsy at first, but in no time you’ll be very comfortable and able to take small waves from all directions without falling.

Standup Paddling

For gripping the paddle, you’re opposite hand (left hand if paddling on the right side of the board) should be on the top paddle handle, and your inside hand should be palm facing in on the shaft of the paddle. You want long strokes to maximize efficiency, reaching as far forward as you can before darting the paddle into the water. As you pull the paddle back, you want to work it with the core of your body. Your arms should be fairly straight through-out the process. When you pull the paddle out of the water at the end of your stroke, you sort of drop you top hand towards the opposite side of the board and bring the paddle thru the air flatly to minimize wind resistance. The paddle should cut thru the air like a knife. You’ll see beginners doing this incorrectly and fighting against the wind with their paddle. The windier it is, the more you can feel the difference here. The paddle will be a straight shaft with a paddle that angles forward. You want the angle going forward, so the paddle has the ability to bend and recoil as you paddle it from front to back. Very frequently, beginners mistakenly paddle with the paddle angling backwards.

Alternating your Standup Paddle Stroke

Unless you’ve got a racing dedicated board (that typically have very pronounced V hulls), you’ll notice the direction of the board change with every stroke. By the time you’ve done five strokes on the right side of the board you’ll notice the direction you’re now heading is 15 degrees to the left. As such, you want to switch to the other side and do five strokes there. You alternate back and forth. Additionally, it helps minimize this if you lean out towards the side you are paddling on. Also, different boards track differently based on the different shapes of their bottom.

Turning a Stand Up Paddle Board

If you just keep paddling on one side of the board you will follow a slow, rounded turning radius on most stand up paddle boards (with dedicated racing boards the exception). This is how most beginners turn. It’s slow and inefficient. Once you feel comfortable with your balance, you can make very quick turns by just walking back on your board. Position your......continue reading (here)
